Do Non-Monetary Incentive Systems Matter? - Evidence From The Restructuring Of A Non-Monetary Incentive System In An Online Community
نویسنده
چکیده
Many operators of online communities severely struggle with overcoming the nonparticipation of users and with persuading users to contribute to their platform’s online activities. However, a critical mass of active members who are willing to contribute is necessary in order to make an online community interesting and appealing to existing and potential new users. In this research, we investigate how the fundamental restructuring of a non-monetary incentive system of a popular German Question & Answer community affects user participation levels. We answer our research question by analyzing a unique dataset provided by the community's operator. We find that especially recently acquired users place a greater value on non-monetary incentive systems and reduce their participation level due to restructuring. With increasing length of membership, the effect of nonmonetary incentive systems weakens. The post-event participation level of experienced users is not affected by the event.

Labor Allocation in Paid Crowdsourcing: Experimental Evidence on Positioning, Nudges and Prices
This paper reports the results of a natural field experiment where workers from a paid crowdsourcing environment selfselect into tasks and are presumed to have limited attention. In our experiment, workers labeled any of six pictures from a 2 x 3 grid of thumbnail images. In the absence of any incentives, workers exhibit a strong default bias and tend to select images from the top-left (“focal”...

I t is commonly held that increasing monetary rewards enhance work effort. This study, however, argues that this will not ineludibly occur in team activities. Incentive Reversal may occur in sequential team productions featuring positive external impacts on agents. This seemingly paradoxical event is explained through two experiments in this article. The first experiment involves a sample ...

In Germany construction projects are based on traditional contracts with competitive bidding, which do not support collaboration. The behavior of non-cooperation results in a mass of claims and problems by the final inspection up to legal proceedings. Furthermore, the complex and dynamic environment as well as the asymmetric information between the participants of a construction project lead to...
متن کاملThreshold Effects in the Monetary Policy Reaction Function: Evidence from Central Bank of Iran
Determining how monetary policy makers react to changes in key economic variables has been of major interest to monetary economists. Estimates of monetary policy rules (reaction functions) are a widely used method for doing this. Behavior differs under different policy regimes, as in rule-based systems or chronic inflation. In practice, estimates of instrument rules have been used to descri...
